Here’s what you can do.

Be the Change

We want to change the culture around litter—but we need you. Calcasieu Parish is a beautiful place to live, but to reach our full potential, we have to address our litter problem. We can all take steps to create sustainable change—from volunteering for a community cleanup to disposing of big household items properly.

Commit to a Clean Lifestyle

Are you interested in participating in a cleanup project in your city or neighborhood? This is a perfect way for you to get involved without having to make a huge commitment. We encourage you to participate any way you can—that’s why we’re making available this easy option for a one-off community cleanup.

Make a Game Plan

Now’s the time to develop a plan. Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Try picking up a certain amount of litter per week or per month. Five pieces, 10 pieces, 25 pieces—anything makes a difference.
  • Try using more sustainable products—reusable grocery bags, reusable bottles, biodegradable wrapping paper and gift bags.
  • Secure loose trash in your pickup truck bed.
  • Implement a recycling routine (see Team Green for info on drop-off sites in Lake Charles).
  • Make use of free dumpsites for large or irregular items, as well as recyclables.
  • Buy a water filter to cut down on plastic bottles.
  • Follow us on social media for tips, education and more.

Spread the Word

A major part of the Pick It Up movement is highlighting the positive changes that are already taking place in Calcasieu Parish and inspiring others to get involved. You can use the hashtag #pickitupcalcasieu when posting about your efforts on social media to adopt a cleaner lifestyle and share posts from our social media accounts to yours.

Use Dropoff Sites

When it’s too big for curbside pickup, or when it’s time to clean out that junk in your garage or shed, load up your items and bring them to one of the two free Residential Solid Waste Convenience Centers. They accept a wide range of specific items. The centers are open to anyone who presents a driver’s license with a Calcasieu Parish address.
The service is free—and for non-commercial use only.

Make a difference.
